James & Jack’s Colourful & Fun Liverpool Wedding

Boys suits, paper cranes & all the laughter are definitely my three favourite things about this fun Liverpool wedding. Hope their huge smiles will make your day a bit brighter!

TELL US THE STORY OF HOW YOU MET

James and I met online, we shared mutual friends and began talking about our love of dirty martinis and the great outdoors. For our first date we went ice skating and while practising our skills we didn’t stop talking and laughing. We then visited the home of Lewis Carroll and ate some great food in Daresbury, Cheshire.

PROPOSAL

James had always told me I would have to propose to him and only after we had a dog, so I had no idea what was to come. We were on holiday in Thailand visiting Ko Phi Phi Leh which was the filming location of one of my favourite Alex Garland books and movie of the same name The Beach. We waded across shallow waters with blacktip sharks swimming around and James proposed to me. It was a truly amazing day and took me by complete surprise.

WHAT WAS THE THEME AND INSPIRATION FOR THE DAY? DID YOU STYLE IT YOURSELF?

We both knew that our wedding would be about having fun with family and friends so we wanted something less formal and more intimate. The theme we landed on was rustic summer cocktail due to our venue being pared down and chic. We wanted lots of little details we knew people would recognise as our own style. Our friends were heavily involved in getting the final day sorted, with some making the button holes and others helping with the folding for the origami decorations.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE VENUE AND WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT IT?

We had the ceremony in St Georges Hall, which is a beautiful neoclassical concert hall in the city centre of Liverpool. For the reception we booked Leaf on Bold Street which is a great bohemian venue in an art deco building that specialises in great food and rare teas. We both wanted something independent with an amazing visual and able to offer a tasty vegetarian menu and one look around Leaf we knew this was the one.

FLOWERS, DECORATIONS, DID YOU DO ANY DIY?

We love gardening so we grew all of the flowers, the back garden looked like Chelsea flower show. We mixed lots of scented flowers with great pollinator flowers including: verbena, sweet peas, gypsophila, lavender, jasmine and cornflowers.

The decorations we made ourselves, we wanted our guests to really identify our personalities in the wedding. For table favours we made individual lemon shortcake biscuits with our names and dates stamped into them. We then made origami decorations and themed each table to a seperate animal and made other designs to hang around the venue to decorate.

We planned the wedding ourselves, with the help of Jacob from Leaf on Bold Street.

CAKE

Our cake was made by the amazing fully vegan venue Old Hardware Store in Woolton. We had a three tiers which were – bakewell, salted caramel and lemon drizzle cake.

OUTFITS

We both wore tweed Moss Bros suits, in complementary sage and blue that we luckily found on for a reasonable price, they helped with the final fittings.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Emma met us for the first time in Leaf and we gabbed for over an hour about what we wanted our wedding to be like and from the beginning she really understood the brief and we gelled. We were then invited around to her house to meet her dog, Cooper and discuss more about the day over cups of tea. She really did put us at ease and her amazing portfolio spoke for itself. On the day she moved seamlessly to get photographs that captured the fun and mood of the evening.
