CRAIG & PRAT’S FUN BARBICAN WEDDING

I’m not gonna lie, Barbican is one of my favourite places in the world. So when I saw this gorgeous fun wedding I was like ”hell yeah!!”. 

TELL US THE STORY OF HOW YOU MET

A proper old fashioned blind date. Craig’s sister-in-law and Prat’s former house mate are cousins and set us up. Prat had seen a work photo of Craig, but Craig had not even seen a picture of Prat. We arranged to meet at Covent Garden Tube Station, and on the day Craig texted Prat to ask what he looked like. The response was ‘I’d like to say I’m a young, tall guy, but I’m an older Indian gentleman with grey hair’. Craig thought he was going on a date with Penfold (but named Prat!) and was expecting the worst date of his life. Luckily, the reality was very different, and they got on incredibly well (and drank two pitchers of Margaritas!) and it went from there…

NOW ABOUT THE BIG DAY! WHAT WAS THE THEME AND INSPIRATION? HOW DID THE DAY LOOK LIKE?

The theme was Scottish/Indian. Craig is half-Scottish, half-Indian, and Prat is Indian. We asked our guests to dress up (kilts and Indian dress made for a very colourful day), and wanted the whole day to be really relaxed – we didn’t have a sit down meal, but took advantage of the Barbican conservatory to have a buffet (Indian!), loads of booze (which you might say is Scottish!), ceilidh dancing and – by the evening – nearly 300 guests!

WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND MOST FUN PART FOR YOU?

Really difficult to choose – we just loved the whole day so much. We had spent loads of time thinking about the various parts of the day, without giving much thought to the ceremony, but that was really special – both because our nieces and nephews walked us up the aisle, and because it meant a lot to us. The speeches were great, but the ceilidh dancing was loads of fun!

Something else that was really important to us is that our nephew Finlay has Down’s Syndrome – not only was he a big part of our day (including carrying the rings!) – we asked our guests to donate to Down Syndrome Scotland rather than buy us gifts, and they were very generous, which was lovely!

OUTFITS

Craig’s kilt was from Twenty First Century Kilts in Edinburgh (run by a guy Howie who was in the year above Craig at school). The Indian outfits came from various Indian shops!

CAKE

Cake was from the Vanilla Patisserie. They were absolutely amazing – brought and set up the cake from Suffolk to London, loads of people have commented on the very high quality of the cake, and to top it all off Michelle has a twin with Down’s Syndrome, which felt like fate!

WOULD YOU HAVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Can’t recommend Ryan enough – he was absolutely fantastic, and really relaxed (including dealing with us saying that he got a maximum of 10 minutes with us because we wanted to spend time with our guests!)
