Niall and Gareth’s Islington Assembly Hall wedding
Niall and Gareth got married at the Islington Assembly Hall in London. They had a great day, delicious food and wishes from Doctor Who himself! Take a look at their fun wedding.
There wasn’t a theme as such, other than “let’s have the best party ever” – but some of inspirations came from the coloured tiles of the Northern Line with a little bit of the Festival of Britain thrown in too. The most important part of the day was having all our family and friends there to see an event we’d been promising for a decade!
Niall wore his kilt which he’s had for years – specifically purchased with this occasion in mind. Gareth wore a bespoke suit made by Edit Suits Co.
Flowers were provided by Nicholas Ward Designs – a Cardiff based florist, he drove to London on the morning of the wedding to deliver the flowers, which were again inspired by the colours of the Victorian tiles on the Northern Line.
We chose Islington Assembly Hall having attended a concert (Swing Out Sister) there a few years earlier – for us it provided exactly the right location, being a beautiful art deco venue with beautiful period features, plenty of space and most importantly, a terrific sprung dancefloor. Plus the biggest disco ball in the borough!
Our photographer was John Sanders, who somehow managed to capture every single brilliant moment of the day and make us look good at the same time. Entirely unobtrusive, we barely noticed he was there. He has a way of making you utterly relaxed almost instantaneously. It’s sort of like having your best friend do it, only the results are spectacularly good!
Everything at Islington Assembly Hall was handled by the magnificent Katharine King, who ensured the entire event ran smoothly – we couldn’t have done it without her.
Cakes (all four of them!) came from Hummingbird Bakery in Islington.
Food – pie and mash! – was supplied by The Humble Pie Co.
We were hugely thrilled and surprised to receive a video message from Peter Capaldi, in character as Doctor Who – telling us he’d visited the future and seen a happy marriage. You can watch it here!
The entertainment was provided by one of the grooms, Niall, who crafted and mixed a four hour disco of guaranteed floor fillers – it eventually became a hit on Mixcloud!
