PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF

My name is Dean I am a florist and am the owner and founder of The Terrace London.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

I have been a florist for over 16 years now, and many of those years I worked as a Mayfair florist, working with some incredible clients and stunning venues and events. I love the simplicity and beauty of flowers and I wanted to create something for myself so I can showcase my style and my passion.

HOW DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?

It varies quite often, anything from meeting new clients to an event or a couple planning a wedding, to walking around the flower market and seeing which flowers are in season and organising what I need. So much of this job is in the planning, the ordering and making sure the flowers look the absolute best they can on the day.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?

I love meeting new clients. It’s the excitement of an upcoming event, how we connect and the discussions of what they are looking for and how I can bring that vision to life.

AND WHAT IS THE WORST PART?

I don’t think there is anything I don’t love about what I do. The only thing with flowers it can be frustrating as some of the beautiful things you order may not come into the flower market. Some of the flowers do come from abroad, so it can be a little stressful as everything has been planned, but it happens so it’s time to think on your feet.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOUʼVE BEEN GIVEN?

Just believe in yourself.

WHAT WOULD YOU WANT COUPLES TO KNOW ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?

I listen, am very approachable and I have such passion and love what I do.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING A WEDDING?

Work with the space you have, look at the colours in that space and using those colours with the flowers can really lift it and bring it to life and really work with the florist and be open to ideas.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU DIDNʼT WORK IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY?

I would be a gardener. I love nature and I grew up helping my grandfather and my parents in the garden, so it would absolutely have to be working with nature.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR TIME OFF?

Meeting friends, I am a very sociable person and I love to walk too and I am that person who gets really excited when I see beautiful plants, I can’t help it.

DREAM HOLIDAY?

I am an explorer so roaming around Italy or France is just perfect.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?

I would love to have a little flower shop, either in the U.K. by the sea or someone abroad in the sunshine. Ultimately to be happy still working with flowers.
